Probably, but let’s let the courts decide this one. That’s what Elena Zakharova is doing because her dog Umka has been costly and unhappy because of preexisting(?) medical issues that manifest in pain. She’s probably going to try the sad puppy dog face in court, which would be a tactic well played if timed correctly to a pet-owning judge. Though I’m not sure I agree with all of the premises of her argument, the question of if pets should be treated as property or human(ish) by law is interesting.
It is my deepest hope that whatever the court rules, they throw us a bone and write their opinion with the snark it deserves.
