The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed legislation that would shut down the Corporation for National and Community Service. If this bill were to become law it would eliminate AmeriCorps, Learn & Serve, Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions and the other service programs.
The Senate has been debating the budget all week, but the legislators have failed to make much headway because the Senate is so deeply divided. This legislative stalemate cannot last much longer.
The federal government is operating under another short-term resolution that expires on March 18th. Congress must reach a compromise and pass a budget bill or risk a government-wide shutdown next week. Serious budget negotiations have already started and Congress will find common ground very soon. But the question is:Will the compromise include funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service?

Help save service by 1) INFORMING YOURSELF, 2) CALLING YOUR SENATORS, and 3) GETTING OTHERS ON BOARD. Seriously folks, it would be disastrous if these programs got eliminated. Act NOW.
