Mission: get from work to New Haven at a reasonable hour to take my brother out for a birthday dinner.
Problem 1: 25 minute walk with a heavyish bag and bad back is a bad idea
Problem 2: subways have been messed up and would have involved a transfer
Problem 3: midtown
You can’t catch a cab in midtown on a Friday at 5. I tried for 10 minutes and failed horribly. 5 more minutes. The train times were 15 minutes and counting, and I still would have to wait in the ever-crazy Friday line to buy a ticket and then race to the track.
I took a pedicab.
Mark Stringer, certified pedicab driver, promised me a <10 minute ride and wouldn’t charge me a thing if it was more.
He did it. And it was awesome. For $15 (he offered $10, but I felt so excited by it in the end that he made out well), I grew a new appreciation for the lithe pedicabs and green solution to our traffic problem.
I ran and made my train. Mission accomplished, thanks to a pedicab.
