Why I disagree with several of your points made about Glee, and my explanation: – The Cheerios don’t wear anything but their uniforms because it’s meant to be ridiculously stereotypical. Plus their Jane Lynch’s character is insane, so it would make sense for her to force her squad to do something like that. – Whether or not it’s funny is subjective. – So do pretty much all actors who play high school students. Sorry they can’t get actual high school students since labor laws prohibit them from working as much as they would need to on a show as demanding as this one. – They’re sitting on Santa’s lap to make sure that their friend continues to believe in Santa. You must have missed that detail when you were too busy expecting realism from a show that is anything but. – “being a Je w, I don’t normally give x-mas gifts” isn’t meant to be a funny line, it’s there because the writers are acknowledging the fact that Rachel is Jewish and they don’t want people to think they’ve forgotten that. – Once again, if you’d been paying attention you would have heard that the A/V club was responsible for rigging a fake snow machine for Rachel’s song, because she likes to go all out. – The crappy music video mode is so that we don’t have to watch a person standing there and lip synching for three minutes…it just serves as a visual distraction; a sort of representation of what that character is thinking about as he or she is singing. – The makeup is no heavier than any other TV show. The cast is just really, really pretty. :P – Of course love on the show it’s crazy. It’s HIGH SCHOOL. – It can be frivolous at times, yes, but at its heart it’s just a feelgood show that’s meant to be fun and have some nice messages (and make a crapton of money for FOX, but whatevs). Tell me I’m wrong if you want, but just know that it’ll make you look like a self-important bitch if you refuse to listen to another person’s opinions.

This person sincerely disagrees with me….and dislikes my general tone. My short answer is to relax a little – it’s just a taste dispute and doesn’t have to get nasty (see final paragraph).

I am happy to listen to the arguments made, however, and appreciate disagreement with a very open mind. You haven’t convinced me though, oh brave Anonymous. See below for my thoughts:

– The Cheerios don’t wear anything but their uniforms because it’s meant to be ridiculously stereotypical. Plus their Jane Lynch’s character is insane, so it would make sense for her to force her squad to do something like that. I’m going to give you that. It’s irritating to look at, still, but it’s not a reason to hate the show. Point taken (mostly because @jalex previously argued it with the skill of a former cheerleader).

– Whether or not it’s funny is subjective.Surprise! My Tumblr is a subjective view of my tastes….don’t try to read something out of context next time!

– So do pretty much all actors who play high school students. Sorry they can’t get actual high school students since labor laws prohibit them from working as much as they would need to on a show as demanding as this one. I understand labor laws (although by 16 you should be good, for what it’s worth) and that actors for high school characters are virtually almost older. However, they could be made to look younger than they do, both physically and with mannerisms and better writing. Also, something that seems unavoidable (like apparent age of actors) shouldn’t need to be compromised on by viewers necessarily. This alone is not a reason to dislike the show, but combined with all else, it makes it even harder to watch.

– They’re sitting on Santa’s lap to make sure that their friend continues to believe in Santa. You must have missed that detail when you were too busy expecting realism from a show that is anything but. Nope, didn’t miss the detail. Totally got it (thanks for the out though). Still twisted and unnecessary even though it followed one of the main premises of the episode. I do like a level of realism to things!!! I think to have a show that is “anything but” still needs to be grounded in something and have “rules” of operating, because otherwise viewers don’t know what to think when. Glee does not have a consistent code of operation, and therefore things that are treated as realistic or frivolous are sometimes hard to separate for this admittedly dumb viewer.

– “being a Jew, I don’t normally give x-mas gifts” isn’t meant to be a funny line, it’s there because the writers are acknowledging the fact that Rachel is Jewish and they don’t want people to think they’ve forgotten that. Because they assume their viewers are dumb or would be pissed about that? I don’t buy it. There are very few shows that need to outwardly state a character trait to keep viewers complacent. Seriously, think about it.

– Once again, if you’d been paying attention you would have heard that the A/V club was responsible for rigging a fake snow machine for Rachel’s song, because she likes to go all out. Yep, paid attention and got that. It was outright ridiculous. Also, if you have ever worked with any snow machine that would be available anywhere that’s not a movie set, it would not look like that. [I know! It’s TV! It’s just a show! it doesn’t have to be real!!!]

– The crappy music video mode is so that we don’t have to watch a person standing there and lip synching for three minutes…it just serves as a visual distraction; a sort of representation of what that character is thinking about as he or she is singing. That’s totally fine. It’s just random (happens sometimes and not always) and ties back to my point that this is not a clear device that the show uses. It could be.

– The makeup is no heavier than any other TV show. The cast is just really, really pretty. 😛 um….disagree and disagree. 🙂

– Of course love on the show it’s crazy. It’s HIGH SCHOOL. Are you in high school? I bet. Let’s go with this then. Apologies.

– It can be frivolous at times, yes, but at its heart it’s just a feelgood show that’s meant to be fun and have some nice messages (and make a crapton of money for FOX, but whatevs). Totally, totally fine. I know it makes a lot of people (like you, some family, some dear friends, my roommate, some scholars….) thrilled. Keep watching and derive those lovely messages. I can’t watch it though – it hurts my eyes and my ears, which are perhaps far to sensitive for a show like this. I’m fine with it.
