Super cool architecture / art / modern religion / public talking point thing

I visited Sukkah City today in Union Square. It was awesome. Wish I knew about it earlier. My favorite was Sukkah of the Signs, and I hope it wins. Check out all the designs online though….it’s really something. And the winning Sukkah will be on display in Union Square for the whole festival of Sukkot.

And a Sukkah, if you’re wondering, is an “ephemeral, elemental shelter, erected for one week each fall, in which it is customary to share meals, entertain, sleep, and rejoice”. It has biblical origins, but also has a much deeper meaning of connection with the earth, and having a sense of place even if the place is not a traditional home.

Hope this competition continues next year!
