failure is good (and tough) ...like kale!
Thanks for this wise thought, Kasper Hauser. Y’all are wicked smart…. let’s really dissect this one shall we? When it comes to group work and collaboration, rare is the person who is successful 100% of the time. Therefore, they will fail some of the time. But why can’t that failure be awesome (and healthy!) like kale?! Nobody enjoys failing, and the experience itself is often...

Lightning kills. Be safe.
I missed National Lightning* Safety Week last week (oh no!) but I’m stretching it out through now. According to the lightning experts, possible (and terrible!) symptoms after being hit by lightening are memory loss, attention deficits, sleep disorders, chronic pain, numbness, dizziness, stiffness in joints, irritability, fatigue, weakness, muscle...

DIY Bridal Shower Game
I hosted my first bridal shower last week for my buddy Shal, who gets married to a lovely gentleman next month. She wanted a tea party theme, so here’s a fun game we played…. adapt at will! British Language Jeopardy Have the bride-to-be pick someone she wants to beat! She is a team captain, along with the bride-to-be. Have them alternate picking ladies for their team and sit on...

Oh no! It happened.
I do not for the life of me remember going on a date with a gentleman who has run into me on the internet. He swears we went to a bar in chelsea, and I didn’t like his beard, but that he only had it because he’s Jewish and wasn’t shaving because of a death in the family. He couldn’t remember why nothing more ever happened, because it was almost 3 years ago, but he asked if...

“I’m sort of a logical person and that was my logic, what I came up with....”
– Richard James Verone, who robbed a bank for $1 in hopes of getting health care from the prison system. Even crazier to me is that he’s actually now in jail. Even though he (says he) did this for personal medical care reasons, I think there’s a broader statement made here, and...

How wearing a helmet saved me, twice.
SCENARIO 1 Setting: A lovely spring day in 2007 in Somerville, MA Where I was going: To volunteer, and I had traveled the bike route many times. What else you need to know: Cambridge/Somerville/Boston all have narrow roads that narrow even more more and are quite dangerous with any construction at all. On Somerville Avenue, 3 blocks from my destination, there were a lot of construction...

Chew with your eyes!
Fact: When a frog swallows food, it pulls its eyes into the roof of its mouth to help push food down its throat. THAT’S SO CRAZY. What an incredible mechanism for eating, right? It feels more advanced than what we do somehow. This and other amazing frog facts can be explored further at the American Museum of Natural History or here.

Better than Paint by Number: Paint by Beard!
It’s true. Great art with even better motivation. Graham Clark, who’s a super funny and cool guy living the dream in Vancouver, started churning out these ridiculously talented paintings using his newly-grown out beard as his paintbrush, and is selling the works to raise money for his buddy Ryan. Ryan, a quadriplegic with cerebral palsy, needs funds for a wheelchair, and even...

Why don’t cities spend more money making sure everyone, including homeless folks, had food, clothing, and shelter and less money on arresting people trying to help?

Awesome Day Trip: Breakneck Ridge
Breakneck Ridge is a mountain just off Metro North with fairly rigorous hiking options. Armed with water, some empty coffee cups, Burts Bees Chapstick, and two bananas, Valerie and I hiked the white to blue to yellow trails, covering well over 6.5 miles of strenuous trail (not including the highway, which was a whole other story). There were a lot of boulders in the beginning, but it well worth...

Help me write a poem. Nifty cause.
A very dear friend of mine had a super unique idea to collect poems from her friends for her 25th birthday. We were given free reign; it can be “your favorite, an original, something silly or sweet, meaningful or obscene - whatever you feel”. I like it, especially because we’re thousands of miles away and it’s a great way to feel connected, but I just don’t know what...

Free outdoor space WiFi!? Why can't more... →
I’m hugely supportive of this effort… good work Dumbo! What a great way to draw people to public spaces and provide a very tangible service at low cost.
