GOTV - hate it.
I’m all for voting (civic responsibility!), but Get Out The Vote is not a slogan that makes me do it. It irritates me, in fact, because it doesn’t seem to mean anything. I feel like a word is wrong (Get Out And Vote, perhaps?) or it’s unnecessary (Vote, anyone?) or candidate’s volunteers do this anyway (get people to the polls).  Get Out The Vote just sounds awkward,...

Let's start suing 4 year olds, shall we? →
This legal opinion is a bit crazy, and I like it given the context. It’s mostly the parents’ fault that kids hurt an elderly woman, but no way can everyone be let off the hook because “kids will be kids”. Biking on the sidewalk is a serious thing, and we can’t just have people (kids or adults) barreling into whoever crosses their path.

Insight into the Long Island school system
Remember the fortune tellers of 2nd through 6th grade? The paper ones that preteens fold and author with phenomenal precision. Even 15 years later, this strange phenomenon is alive and well. Possible choices from my friend Stef, age 23: you’re smart! you have no friends Yo so gangsta you’s a ho! You rock You smellllll you’re dumb you’re special It’s special,...

Karina Picache is a really great photographer who I went to Tufts with. She entered a contest. At the very least, look at her submitted portfolio, and if you like them (you will), vote for her. Then reblog.

The Truth About Uninsured Kids, According to Me*
I’m resigned to the fact that we, the United States of America, will never be Canada. We will never learn aboot hockey, eat fiddlehead soup, or (perhaps most importantly) have a national health care system where every citizen can receive quality, free care. Instead, we have a TV culture inspiring obesity and poor dietary choices and a shocking 8,000,000 children who don’t have access to primary...

Sometimes my mom sends pretty awesome emails.
Jen - I meant to show you the bookmark I had with me in Texas that you’d given to me when you were under 10: “Every heart has hidden treasure - A secret wish, a silent dream. A special goal to hope and long for. Not matter how distant it may seem.” - Jill Wolf Then, on the back you’d drawn a whole bunch of hearts and wrote: To Mom From Jen - Think of this saying when you need cheering up :) ...

IntenSati is amazing. I've got a feeling...
I needed some more endorphins and stability in my life, so I joined a gym. Then today, I went to another, more snobby scary all-out gym. I did an abs class and then IntenSati with the amazing Natalia. I don’t love working out, but this was awesome. IntenSati’s all about positive affirmations while you’re getting a fantastic cardio and lower body workout. It was great for all...

iPhone goes up, up, up. This is pretty neat. I wish I was cool enough to try this (and moreso, rich enough to buy an iPhone that I’m ok with losing).

“Anyone can make a mistake, it is what you do next that defines your character.”
– A lady I work with, when she was talking to her kids, and now in her email signature line. It really resonated with me.

The librarian at work died last week. She was a really lovely lady, with the biggest heart and most incredible optimism. She thrived on conversation and positive interactions, and took sincere interest in her work. Her wake was filled with warmth and comfort, disbelief and sorrow, and a soothing sense of peace. Her cubicle until this morning was alive - layers of books, stored halloween...

groupme: Move over, FaceTime. GroupMe’s got HammerTime. Text “#hammertime” (including that pound sign, all lower case) to any of your groups with more than four members, and we’ll enter your group into our contest. Over the next few days, the one and only MC Hammer will be calling and texting with… Ok, so this is pretty cool. Both GroupMe and the MC Hammer thing. I’m doing it in my...

Question: why the separate personas?
Lots of people are making a twitter for work and a twitter for play or a facebook profile that’s “professional” and one that’s “social”. I think it’s dumb, at least if we lived in my perfect world. In my perfect world, people wouldn’t be ashamed by having fun, act differently around different people, and brown-nosing perfectionists at work who are...

Duck Duct Tape Club →
It exists. They have cool DIY activities, “Ask the Duck”, funny pictures, promotions, and ideas for how to best use it. It’s fantastic. I’m a little scared to register, but I sort of feel like I should, because I really like Duct Tape, and I am one of ??? people who actually looked at the website.
